Chikmagalur is town located in Karnataka (at the foot of Mullayangiri Hills) with beautiful valleys and view points. I would describe it as s Trekkers paradise than a tourist place.

Also Chikmagalur stretch (from Coorg to Chikmagalur to Kemmangudi) is famous for Coffee Plantations

First of all Chikmagalur is not a hillstation but a junction point connecting to Mullayangiri, Bababuddangiri, Kemmangudi and much more.

Places to visit :

  • Mullayangiri (Highest peak in South india between Himalayas and Nilgirs)
  • Baba Buddangiri/Dadda Peeta and Manika Para
  • Buttermilk waterfalls
  • Hebbe Waterfalls
  • Kemmangudi
  • Kudramukh
  • Muthodi Forest

Almost all places are famous for trekking and must go place for adventure seekers.

Sathuragiri or Mahalingam Temple is a 'Lord Shiva' temple located in western Ghats near Srivilliputhur.

Best way to reach is - Sri Villiputhur - Thaniparai - Sathuragiri

we should climb from Thaniparai to Sathuragiri into the forest. A really tough trekking with bare foot. It will take an average of 3 to 5 hrs to climb up and 3 to 4 hrs for climbing down.

Temple is open for public only during Full moon day, No moon day and Pradosha days( Pournami, Amavasai and Prathosha natkal)

Sambrani from Sathuragiri Hills

There are two shiva's on the top - Santhana mahalingam and Sundara Mahalingam.

There is another interesting place above this temple called Thavasi paarai.
